You Belong Here: Overcoming Imposter Syndrome in the Workplace

Hey sis, have you ever felt like you didn't deserve your job or accomplishments? YES!!  ME TOO. This is called imposter syndrome and it's something that a lot of black women have experienced, especially after facing discrimination and a lack of representation in the workplace. But don't let self-doubt hold you back!

Here are some tips to help you overcome imposter syndrome:

Recognize and challenge negative thoughts. When you hear that inner voice telling you that you're not good enough, challenge it by thinking about your wins and/ or consider repeating an affirmation.  I included one for you below.


Connect with a therapist, coach or support group. Talk to other women who have been in your shoes.  They may be able to offer advice and encouragement. You don't have to go through this alone. Trust and believe that YOU'RE NOT ALONE.


Practice self-care. Do things that make you happy.  Watch your diet.  Be sure to eat.  Get rest.  ASK FOR HELP IF YOU NEED IT.

    Remember, you are worthy and capable of achieving your goals. Don't let imposter syndrome steal your shine!

    Here's an affirmation to try repeating when imposter syndrome rolls through: "I am a boss, a queen, and a force to be reckoned with. I am deserving of success and will not let self-doubt hold me back.
